The Serengeti District Council has awarded certificates to twelve development stakeholders in recognition of their immense contribution to the councils sectoral development.
The stakeholders recognized for pushing for Serengetis socio-economic growth are Dr Rhimo Simeon Nyansaho, Tanzania National Parks, Frankfurt Zoological Society, NMB Bank, Tanzania Wildlife Authority, Thomson and Safaris, Grumeti Fund, CRDB Bank, Tanzania Postal Bank, Right to Play, Tanzania Education Authority, and KfW Development Bank , all representing 257 other stakeholders.
Serengeti District Commissioner Dr Vincent Mashinji was the guest of honour who handed the certificates to the selected development stakeholders during a meeting of the district council held at Mugumu town last week.
“I appeal to development stakeholders to continue helping the district council to enable it improve the lives of the people. We have many needs but few resources,” Dr pleaded.
He also used the occasion to pray for peace and tranquility as catalysts for Serengeti districts growth of the tourism industry like it is in other areas where the gold mining industry flourishes.
The expansive Serengeti district boasts of the famous Serengeti National Park which contributes a huge chunk of revenue to government coffers like the giant North Mara Gold Mine in Tarime district.
Last year during the tourist high season, the global heritage site received an average of 1,500 tourists per day, according to Dr Mashinji.
The chairman of the Serengeti District Council, Ayub Mwita Makuruma, praised the development stakeholders awarded certificates, saying their contribution was readily visible in the districts sectoral development.
