The digital media in Tanzania has recorded yet another ambitious milestone after the first ever Lake Zone based English digital platform was officially launched here.

Christened the ‘Lake Zone Watch’, the online media was launched by a prominent businessman Mr Christopher Mwita Gachuma, who called on the media to maintain maximum credibility and integrity in order to serve and accomplish their noble mission.

Mr Gachuma who is also a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) called on the Lake Zone Watch to collaborate with all development stakeholders in the respective regions, when implementing its plans.

“You have to make sure your objectives are met by working closely with various players, especially those in the local government authorities who are hosting myriads of projects at different levels of implementation,” he said.

The Lake Zone comprises the regions of Mara, Mwanza, Kagera, Geita, Simiyu, Shinyanga and Mara.

On his part, the Lake Zone Watch Managing Editor Mugini Jacob said the online media will do its utmost to ensure it connects the Lake Zone with the rest of the world, by reporting cross-cutting issues, as well as multi-sectoral development programmes.

Mr Mugini, himself a journalist by profession who has worked with a number of media outlets for more than 15, said the Lake Zone Watch will focus on issues of national and international interest, including economic growth, infrastructure development, education, health and social services as a whole.

“As the first English online media in the Lake Zone, we are determined to be as professional as possible, while propelling our ambitious goal of creating a platform through which the entire region connects with the rest of the world, for the latter to tap its potential,” he said.

The launching ceremony was also graced by another NEC member from the ruling CCM Ms Joyce Ryoba Mang’o and the business community, members of the press, religious community and the general public also attended the colourful event held at New Mwanza Hotel on Thursday last week.
