Professor Makulilo named OUT Vice-Chancellor

The Chancellor of the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), former Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, has appointed Prof. Alex Makulilo, the universitys new Vice-Chancellor.

Prof. Makulilo will take up his new position on June 2, according to a statement released by OUT in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The new OUT boss, a professor of law, technology and innovation, has extensive experience in senior leadership roles in university administration having served as OUT Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic. 

Research, and Consultancy, Deputy Chancellor for Learning Technologies and Regional Services and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law, among other titles.

Prof Makulilo, also an advocate of the high Court of Tanzania, takes over from Prof Elifas Tozo Bisanda, who has administered OUT in the past decade from 2015.

To his credit, Prof. Makulilo is an Advisory Committee Member of the International Privacy Library of the World Legal information Institute, Australia, a member of the International Association for Artificial intelligence and Law, and a former Researcher and member of Law, Science, Technology and Society Studies.

The university don also boasts as the founder and editor-in-chief of the African Journal of Law and Technology published by the Africa Law and Technology Institute.
