Nyamongo community leaders thank Barrick North Mara for repair of ambulance

Local community leaders from villages surrounding Barrick North Mara Gold Mine have thanked the mining company for repairing Nyangoto health centre ambulance.

The goldmine handed over the ambulance after the vehicle underwent major repairs at a cost of about 40 million shillings, and said improvement of health service in the neighbouring communities was part of its priority areas.

“The community surrounding us is very important. Let’s continue strengthening our good cooperation and solve any challenges on both sides so we can move to the next fantastic level,” said Barrick North Mara General Manager (GM) Mr Apolinary Lyambiko when handing over the ambulance early today .

Community’s leaders who included village government chairpersons, ward executive officer for Matongo and village executive officers for Mjini Kati and Nyangoto villages were grateful of the assistance provided by the gold mine.

“God has answered our prayers. I would like to thank Barrick North Mara for what they have shown us,” the Mjini Kati village chairperson,Mr Paul Bageni said.

The public health centre, located at Nyangoto area in Nyamongo ward, serves more than 200 patients on a daily basis, majority of them from villages surrounding the gold mine, according to Health Medical Offer in -charge Gibarwa Nyamhanga .

Dr Nyamhanga also noted, the repair of the ambulance was good news.

Matongo ward councilor Mr Godfrey Kegoye underscored the need for utmost care of the ambulance by ensuring it undergoes frequent services.

“I thank GM Lyambiko for this assistance, let all of us take care of this vehicle,” the councilor said.

The event was also attended by Barrick North Mara Community Relations Manager Mr Francis Uhadi, among others.

Meanwhile, the gold mine says it plans to donate various health equipment worth 120 million shillings to the same health centre as part of its ongoing efforts to supplement efforts made by the government of Tanzania to improve health service delivery in the area.
