The Professor Mwera Foundation (PMF), a non-profit organization, has awarded a special medal to President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan in recognition of her immense contribution to the development of the country’s education sector.
PMF Director , Mr Hezbon Peter Mwera handed over the medal to Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule last Friday during a regional education stakeholders meeting held here.
“Her Excellency the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, is doing so many noble things to improve the education sector. For us, as an institution, we recognize her major contribution in education. We’re awarding her a special medal in honour of her efforts; we’re glad to hand over this prize to the Dodoma Regional Commissioner who will finally present it to the president,” Mwera said.
As an institution, PMF coordinates education improvement efforts at primary, secondary and vocational education levels. Since ascending to the presidency two years ago, President Dr Samia has played a major role in building vocational training centres planned to reach every district.
Mwera also awarded the Dodoma Regional Commissioner a special medal in recognition of the region’s efforts in academic performance in national examinations for Standard VII pupils, Form IV and Form VI students. Last year, Dodoma grabbed the 10th position in national exams performance.
“Ours is a non-profit institution. We’re mobilizing youth to join vocational training centres in their respective regions. We recognize and value the role of youth in the development process of our country. They need to join vocational training centres while waiting final results of their Form IV and Form VI exams,”Mwera said.
PMF is also collaborating with offices of Regional Commissioners countrywide to award different prizes to primary and secondary school students who excel in their exams nationally.
According to Mwera, who is also the chairman of heads of vocational training centres in the Lake Zone regions, his organization has been entrusted by the government to conduct academic training programmes for workers in the hotel and tourism industries in ten regions of the country. These are Mara, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Kagera, Geita, Simiyu, Kigoma, Katavi, Rukwa and Ruvuma.
Mwera added that implementation of the free academic training programme is based at the Tarime Vocational Training Centre in Mara region where youth converge to learn various trades.
Dodoma Regional Commissioner Senyamule hailed PMF for a job well done in uplifting the education sector in the country. She said President Samia wants to see that every child gets the opportunity of receiving education, and that all challenges besetting the sector would be solved gradually.
