Azania Bank yesterday sponsored an Iftar event dubbed Futuru na Mama Samia for the vulnerable and special groups in Serengeti district as part of building stronger relations in the society.

The function, organised by the outgoing Mara Regional Commissioner, Said Mohamed Mtanda, was held at the Kisare hall in Mugumu town.

Mtanda and a host of other leaders who attended the occasion thanked Azania Bank’s sponsorship in honouring the lives of the vulnerable groups in the society, which included the distribution of food items

” I wholeheartedly thank Azania Bank. I called the bank’s director and he responded, saying give me the account number; and he gave me 5m/- to go and organise an Iftar with the Serengeti people,” said Mtanda, who has been transferred to Mwanza region.

He added: “The Azania Bank Director of Business Development (Dr Rhimo Simeon Nyasaho) is a man who respects authority. Let me congratulate you.”

The Regional Commissioner said sponsoring an event like the Iftar is implementing Gods natural call of remembering the defenceless in the society by building bridges of mutual coexistence.

Speaking at the same venue, Dr Nyansaho said he recognises the importance of fasting as holding prayers and helping the needy in the society.

“The essence of fasting is holding prayers which bring tranquillity, peace and love in the country. Its the time to think of the needy in the society,” said Dr Nyansaho, who is also the Chairman of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Board of Directors.

He used the auspicious moment to announce the Azania Bank programme of liberating women against the scourge of unfriendly loans.

“We’ve come with a product called the “Strong Woman” after conducting research. Women face the challenge of what can be termed as “blood sucking” loans with high interest rates from five to ten per cent per month. We’re appealing to you to join us,” he said.

For his part, the Serengeti district chief sheikh, Juma Simba, thanked Azania Bank while urging youth and women to exploit the banks opportunity of disbursing loans with low interest rates.
