A non-governmental organization, Women and Children Foundation, operating in Tanzania’s Bunda district, this time has become the recipient of 10,000 US dollars (more than 26m/-) from Nos Vies en Partage (NVeP), an institution created in 2010 by Barrick Gold Chief Executive Officer Dr Mark Bristow to support the needy.
Early Thursday, Barrick North Mara Gold Mine General Manager Apolinary Lyambiko handed over the donation to uplift the welfare of women and children in the selected area in the Lake Victoria-bordering region of Mara.
“For the second quarter donation, we have the pleasure to present $ 10,000 grant to the Women and Children Foundation in Mara region,” said Lyambiko at a brief event held at the North Mara Gold Mine located at Nyamongo area.
NVeP supports two national and two regional organizations in Tanzania in every quarter with 10,000 US dollars in an effort to help the needy, an assistance mainly directed to vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
“This grant is awarded to empower rural women and children in Mara region, and specifically facilitating the small income generating activities owned by women,” Lyambiko explained.
He noted that North Mara Gold Mine is building sustainable communities as well as ensuring that the mine has what he described as smooth relations with the surrounding local communities.
On her part, Ms Grace Mutoni, a representative of Mara Women and Children Foundation, thanked the Barrick CEO foundation for the generous donation, pledging good use of the money for betterment of women and children lives.
“We’re grateful for the donation and we’re going to use it for the intended purpose of uplifting the status of women and children in Bunda district,” she promised.
