A former Special Seats Member of Parliament who completed her five-year term on Friday June 28 on the ticket of the opposition Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), Esther Matiko, has defected to the ruling Chama Chama Mapinduzi (CCM) describing it as the best political movement with a national outlook fostering unity.

Matiko announced her defection to CCM on Sunday at a press gathering, saying she decided to cross the floor after an in-depth assessment that CCM is the best political party with an established history of uniting people and leading by example.

I had a deeper reflection of President Samia Suluhu Hassans vision as a leader of action. CCM is a true mass party with a very good vision for Tanzanias development, said Matiko, who between 2015-2020 served as the Tarime Urban constituency legislator.

She said that the 2025-2030 CCM Election Manifesto is well enunciated, seeking to bring youth, women and the disabled into the mainstream development process of the country.

She revealed her ambition to contest for the Tarime Urban parliamentary constituency seat under CCMs ticket.

Chama Chama Mapinduzi, a 1977 merger of the then ruling parties of both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, is one of Africas oldest political movements which fought for the independence of Tanzania from colonial rule.

The outgoing MP insisted that she will collect her nomination forms from the Tarime District CCM office to start what she termed the journey of hope.
