TANAPA scoops seven World Travel Awards for promoting domestic, international tourism

The Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) has won seven World Travel Awards for protecting, conserving and promoting domestic as well as international tourism.

The state-run wildlife conservation agency has won international recognition through its seven national parks, according to a statement issued by the Arusha-based organisation.

The prestigious Serengeti National Park has been named the best Africa’s Leading National Park for the 7th time for its attraction, natural vegetation and The Great Migration, which have placed it on the global tourism map.

Kilimanjaro National Park has secured Africa’s Leading Mountain National Park trophy as the tallest mountain in Africa which attracts thousands of tourists and mountain climbers from various parts of the world.

The Nyerere National Park has been chosen as Africa’s Leading Scenic National Park for showing how TANAPA is conserving areas with tourist and historical significance.

Similarly, Tarangire National Park has emerged as the best national park for conservation of the towering elephant roaming the Tarangire plains while Serengeti is credited for conservation of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros.

Ruaha and Kitulo national parks won trophies for being Africa’s Leading Cultural Tourism National Park and Africa’s Leading National Park for Holidays respectively, according to a statement issued by TANAPA.

 “The selection of these seven national parks as winners is not only a prestige to the nation, but also an important tool for promoting Tanzania internationally, attracting tourists and increasing foreign currency through tourism,’’ the statement said.’

‘’These awards strengthen Tanzania’s position as leader in the tourism industry.”
The recognition of the seven Tanzanian national parks leads to the acceptance of the other remaining 14 national parks widespread across the country.
