Dar-Mwanza bus hits train engine..... 13 killed

Thirteen people have died while 25 others have been injured following a grisly road accident when a bus travelling from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza knocked a train engine at a railway crossing in Manyoni early morning today Wednesday.

The accident, which occurred at 4.00 AM, involved a bus with registration No. T 178 DVB, property of Ally’s company, which had 57 passengers onboard, according to Singida Regional Police Commander Stellah Mutabihirwa.

The train engine with registration No.V1951-9006 was heading from Itigi to Manyoni.

Manyoni District Medical Officer, Dr Furaha Mwakafwila , confirmed that nine persons died on the spot while four other persons among the injured were rushed to the Manyoni District Hospital and St Gasper Hospital at Itigi respectively where they died when receiving treatment.

Singida Regional Commissioner Peter Serukamba accompanied by other leaders of the regional defence and security agencies visited the scene of the accident.
