Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde has tasked the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) to help government realise its potential in the mining industry to bolster the national economy.
Speaking at a recent meeting of mining sector stakeholders, Mavunde said government is currently working hard to ensure STAMICO becomes one of the largest public corporations through its slogan ‘Make STAMICO Great Again’.
The minister said expected projects to be carried out by STAMICO would put the state-run agency in the global map as one of the giant firms operating in Tanzania.
“I congratulate you for the major strides you have made to be where you’re today. We look forward to seeing you closing the gap with giants such as the North Mara Gold Mine and Anglogold Ashanti,” he said.
In recent years, STAMICO has made a giant leap by recording notable achievements such as providing Tsh 9bn/- as its dividend to the government.
Government is pleased with the entity’s rapid growth and wants to elevate its status in investing in major strategic projects to increase its share and contribution to the national economy.
STAMICO’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Venance Mwasse, said his organisation will strive to meet its goals that include direct employment creation, generation of government revenue, attracting foreign investments and stimulating technological advances.
He said STAMICO will implement many strategic projects as well as signing joint venture agreements with other major investors operating in the thriving mining industry.
