Shinyanga regional leaders inspect the Mwakitolyo goldmine which collased last weekend killing six people.

Six artisanal miners have died and 11 others rescued at the Mwakitolyo goldmine in Shinyanga region.

The incident occurred at the weekend and Shinyanga District Commissioner, Julius Mtatiro, confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out successfully.

Although he could not give the identity of the dead miners, he said a team of rescuers was immediately deployed at the scene of accident and through the use of modern equipment rescued the 11 miners trapped inside the pit.

The rescued miners were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment where they are reported to be in stable condition ,

Mtatiro refuted rumours, which he termed “baseless”, that there were other small-scale miners still trapped inside the pit.

He thanked residents of the area for helping the government in the rescue operation. Mwakitolyo goladminme is one of small companies conducting mining activities in Shinyanga region.
