The Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) and the British Geological Survey (BGS) on Thursday this week signed a partnership agreement on various areas of cooperation in the mining industry.
The deal was signed in London and witnessed by the head of the Tanzania delegation, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Minerals, Msafiri Mbibo, and the Tanzania High Commissioner in the United Kingdom, Mbelwa Kairuki.
GST Chief Executive Officer, Dr Mussa Daniel Budeba, said under the agreement, the two institutions will carry out mining surveys, modern technology equipment and examination of laboratory samples.
Other areas will be conducting joint projects in geological research, geological extension, monitoring and management of natural geological disasters, scientific information management and environmental issues, and staff training and exchange of experiences.
He said the agreement would benefit both parties with Tanzania being the main beneficiary in terms of acquisition skills and technology in mining, laboratory services and management of scientific information.
On his part, Mbibo expressed his hope that the agreement would provide greater cooperation to attain the envisaged goals.
