The famed Serengeti National Park in Tanzania has been named as one of the five leading wildlife sanctuaries in Africa for promoting sustainable tourism.

The sprawling Serengeti is listed by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as one of the World Heritage Sites as a natural wonder teeming with a wide range of wildlife ranging from the tiny mongoose to the towering elephant.

The national park has becomes the leading animal sanctuary in Africa for promoting sustainable tourism after it grabbed global attention in an article published on June 12, 2025 by India’s news portal, NewsBytes, headlined “Five Wildlife Sanctuaries Promoting Sustainable Tourism”.

Through the feature article, Serengeti has been credited for its efforts of environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and community involvement in wildlife conservation and tourism issues which have led to the sustainability of Tanzania’s tourism sector.

According to the NewsBytes article, other African wildlife sanctuaries which are credited for sustainable tourism in the continent are Kruger of South Africa, Maasai Mara of Kenya, Bwingi of Uganda and Etosha of Namibia.

It is explained in the article that the mention of Serengeti National Park –the pride of Tanzania – is an indicator that the East African nation continues to be the leading haven for modern conservation which prioritises the environment and communities around.

The NewsBytes article says that attractions such as The Great Wildebeest Migration, “The Big Five” animals and the eye-catching landscape continue to make Serengeti the best national park both in Africa and the world as a whole.
