Mara region has made enviable progress in strengthening peace and security to cleanse its image among other regions once listed as areas rife with crime.
The lake zone region has now become a better place to live in, attracting local and foreign investors.
According to Regional Commissioner Colonel Evans Mtambi, incidents of crime and gender-based violence have now become history.
"Let me say that Mara is peaceful. Statistics from the police force show that Mara is no longer among 10 regions which were earlier considered with a higher crime rate.
Col. Mtambi revealed this in Tarime during a fund-raising event towards the construction of a head office of the new North Mara Field diocese of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church.
He said the region is currently undergoing rapid socio-economic transformation as it boasts of various natural resources like minerals and investment opportunities in other key economic sectors.
"We want a peaceful Mara free of criminal acts where people strive for development through investment by locals and foreigners," he said.
He used the occasion to thank SDA church leaders to spread the gospel of peace among Mara region residents.
Minister of Defence and National Service, Dr Rhimo Nyansaho, officiated at the event on behalf of Prime minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba where 641m/- were conyributed towards the church project.
The two-storey church building will be built at Kibumaye area outside Tarime town.
