President Samia says Africa has greater chance to stimulate growth of global economy

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said Africa has a greater opportunity in fuelling the growth of the global economy taking into account its population increase, expansion of markets and the strengthening of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

She said Tanzania is currently doing what it can as Africa's important gate for investment in infrastructure, transportation, energy, digital transformation and industrialisation.

President said this on Friday in Moscow, Russia, when addressing the 29 St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2026) as part of her three-day historic official visit to Russia at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.

She said Tanzania's economy continues to grow steadily fuelled by the expanding market of 500 million people and cooperation among countries in Eastern and Southern Afrca.

She said the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the ongoing improvement of the Dar es Salaam port and other major highways are some of the attractions for investors in this East Africa's second largest economy.

Earlier, addressing the SPIEF 2026 gathering, President Putin laid emphasis on the importance of emerging markets in contributing to the global economy.

President Samia wound up her Russian tour on Friday and returned home today Saturday.
