Tanzania will host the 16th Biennial International Conference of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) from December 12 to 15, this year, to deliberate on emerging scientific advancements and formulate practical solutions for Africa's development and prosperity.
The major gathering will attract more than 500 participants from Africa and beyond, representing academia, governments, industry, civil society, development organisations and international institutions.
An AAS concept note released on Sunday in Dar es Salaam by the Vice-President AAS, Eastern Africa Region, and local organising committee chair, Prof Sospeter Muhongo, said the conference's major theme will be "Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development and Economic Prosperity in Africa".
The unique platform provides not only scientific discourse but also strategic investment as scientists, policymakers, development partners, philanthropists, industry leaders, financial institutions, foundations and government representatives meet to explore sustainable models for financing African science.
According to the AAS concept note, the conference will offer African researchers, policymakers, development partners and the private sector to share evidence, showcase emerging research, and align science, technology and innovation goals with Africa's development and prosperity goals.
AAS is a pan-African scientific organisation established in 1985 to promote excellence in science, technology and innovation across Africa.
