The Appointing Authority of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the 2025 election violence that occurred on October 29 has extended its term by 21 days until April 24 to enable it complete its task.

The team was appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in November to investigate reasons which triggered violence.

The commission was given 90 days to complete its work but because of various reasons its mandate was extended to April 3, 2026.

A statement gazetted by the Appointing Authority said the April 24 deadline of the 21-day extension period would enable the Commission complete analysis of evidence presented, report of views received and to give room for scientific investigation experts to study new exhibits presented to the Commission.

Another reason for the extended period is to complete preparation of the report to be submitted to the president and preparation of translation of the report.

The Commission is led by retired Chief Justice, Mohamed Chande Othman.
