The Barrick Bulyanhulu Gold Mine yesterday signed an agreement worth 1.07bn/- with the Nyang'hwale District Council for the implementation of various development projects under the cooperate social responsibility programme (CSR).
A brief ceremony for the signing of the agreement was witnessed yesterday by officials from the offices of the District Commissioner, District Executive Director and Barrick Bulyanhulu workers.
The Chairman of the Nyang'hwale District Council, John Isack, said the CSR money will be used in the implementation of projects in education and health and other social sectors.
Mainly the funds would be used to improve the learning environment in schools such as the construction of classrooms and procurement of desks and the improvement of health facilities, just to mention few projects.
Speaking at the same occasion, Nyang'hwale District Executive Director, Ezekiel Ntiriyo said the quality of CSR-funded projects has been increasing year after year winning appreciation from the community.
On his part, Barrick Bulyanhulu General Manager Johan Labuschagne promised to cooperate with the government to ensure that the CSR funds benefit the targeted communities.
Nyang'hwale District Administrative Officer Kaunga Omari urged experts and officials overseeing implementation of the projects to observe quality if the projects to make them sustainable.
