President Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore is in Tanzania to explore potential areas of cooperation between the two nations.
The Singaporean leader arrived in Tanzania on Tuesday for a three-day state visit.
Singapore is one of the southeast Asian countries which in recent decades have seen a miraculous economic transformation that has enriched millions of people beyond any expectation.
The Asean nation has greatly benefited from globalisation and an emphasis on exports that are sharply consumed by other countries.
Not only has Singapore jumped into prosperity through free trade but has also protected its favourite domestic industries from foreign competition.
President Shanmugaratnam and her host, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, on Monday held bilateral talks aimed at furthering economic, trade and investment cooperation for the benefit of peoples of the two countries.
On her part, President Samia said the level of trade between Tanzania and Singapore estimated at 299 million dollars needs an added impetus to enable it grow to higher levels.
Currently, Singapore implements 36 investment projects in Tanzania, but following a bilateral agreement signed yesterday in Dar es Salaam the number of projects is expected to go up.
Under the agreement, both Tanzania and Singapore will enhance diplomatic cooperation to strengthen such key sectors as agriculture for increased food security to feed the burgeoning population.
In their discussions, both presidents expressed concern on the emerging problem of climate change which requires urgent measures for mitigation.
